WORKSHOP

Paper Packaging Compliance in Germany (BfR)

10.04.2025
10.00 - 12.00 CET
English
Theodoros Paraskevopoulos

In depth knowledge on paper material in contact with food. Focus on German (BfR) legislation. Similarities with CEPI guidelines.

In this workshop, paper in contact with food will be discussed (both paper and multilayer materials, containing paper). As no harmonized legislation exists for paper materials in the European Union, users of paper need to comply with several national legislations, according to the sale market of the material. German BfR legislation is the most common and widely known legislation to be followed. In this workshop, we will study in detail the BfR regulation, discuss specific details, and tips and tricks to comply with it. Furthermore, CEPI guidelines will be studied, which are the most commonly used guidelines in Europe for paper compliance.

Questions to be answered:

  • Which analysis should I perform for my paper packaging, which will be in contact with food products?
  • How should I handle legislation for paper materials according to the German legislation?
  • What should I do if I print and apply adhesive on paper material?

Benefits for participants:

  • Advanced knowledge on paper materials in contact with food for the European market
  • Better understanding of paper materials and their uses according to their type
  • Easier communication with suppliers and customers
