These rules aim to <strong>prevent contamination <\/strong>and ensure that <strong>packaging does not affect food quality<\/strong>. Periodic updates are introduced by FSSAI to reflect scientific evidence and global regulatory trends.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Key_Amendments_in_the_Draft_Notification\"><\/span><strong>Key Amendments in the Draft Notification<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The draft proposes two important regulatory additions:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Ban on PFAS in Food Contact Materials:<\/strong> A new <em>sub-regulation (15)<\/em> under General Requirements specifies that<strong> <em>per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) shall not be used in the manufacture of food contact materials<\/em><\/strong>. PFAS chemicals, known for their persistence and potential health impacts, are under increasing global scrutiny for their environmental and toxicological risks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elimination of BPA in Polycarbonate and Epoxy Packaging: <\/strong>A new <em>sub-regulation (16)<\/em> requires that <strong><em>packaging made from polycarbonate and epoxy resins must be free from Bisphenol A (BPA) and its derivatives<\/em><\/strong>.
