Proposal of changes has been submitted to the European Commision at the end of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The new regulation aims at the\u00a0<strong>reduction of total packaging waste<\/strong>, promotes\u00a0<strong>usage of recycled materials<\/strong>\u00a0and further strengthens\u00a0the use of\u00a0<strong>reusable materials i<\/strong>n the market<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, the target set for the reduction of packaging waste within each member state is stated at 5% by 2030 and 15% by 2040 compared to 2018 rates.<\/p>\n<p>Until 2030, the design of packaging should be proven to\u00a0<strong>promote recyclability\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>of each package, based on the infrastructure of each member state. Plastic materials are, as expected, part of this commitment, where, for example, the target for\u00a0<strong>recyclable bottles<\/strong>\u00a0is set at30% by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, some\u00a0<strong>single-use plastic packaging\u00a0<\/strong>such as tea bags, coffee capsules and self-adhesive labels for fruit and vegetable should be compostable.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned above, an important part of the new regulation will be the increase of\u00a0<strong>reusable packaging. I<\/strong>t is proposed that 10 % of packaging used for online shopping should be made with reusable packaging.<\/p>\n<p>All these changes in regulation are expected to substantially increase the waste recycling capacity within the EU\u00a0 and reduce the need for virgin materials. They also aims at strengthening the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/environment.ec.europa.eu\/strategy\/plastics-strategy_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-link-id=\"1074848942\">European Green Deal<\/a>\u00a0action plan, thus actively\u00a0contributing to circular economy and sustainability.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new regulation is expected to be completed within 2023, which will replace the \u201colder\u201d directive EU \/ 62\/1994 concerning packaging waste.
