This includes the revision of the permitted lists of substances in Annexes, the integration of scientific and technical advancements and the implementation of <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/ALL\/?uri=celex%3A31984L0500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Directive 84\/500\/EEC<\/a> for ceramics, glass, enamels, and similar materials,\u00a0 and <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/eli\/reg\/2022\/1616\/oj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Regulation (EU) 2022\/1616<\/a> for recycled plastic materials in contact with foods.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Important_Changes\"><\/span><strong>Important Changes<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several regulatory updates have been introduced across various sections, regarding different materials and substances:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Recycled Plastics (Section 6): <\/strong>Article 20 clarifies that the recycling process of food contact plastics must be <strong>authorized<\/strong> by the Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (BLV) or comply with Regulation (EU) 2022\/1616.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Packaging Inks (Section 12): <\/strong>Article 35 requires packaging inks to be made from substances listed in Annexes 2 and 10, or salts under Article 35b. A <strong>detection limit<\/strong> of 0.01 mg\/kg applies to all other substances (Article 35b), unless the use of substances has a specific detection limit and they are not classified as CMR substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction\u00a0substances). Article 35a also requires packaging inks to establish <strong>a declaration of conformity (DoC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4789 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Swiss-amendments-EU-and-Swiss-flags-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Swiss Ordinance - EU and Swiss flags\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Swiss-amendments-EU-and-Swiss-flags-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Swiss-amendments-EU-and-Swiss-flags-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Swiss-amendments-EU-and-Swiss-flags-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Swiss-amendments-EU-and-Swiss-flags-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Swiss-amendments-EU-and-Swiss-flags-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Annex_Updates\"><\/span><strong>Annex Updates<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Annex 10<\/strong>: Revision of the list and specifications for packaging inks to Edition 3.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annex 15<\/strong>: Introduction of a <strong>new section<\/strong> detailing information required for each stage of <strong>packaging inks production<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Transition_Process\"><\/span><strong>Transition Process <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the amendment, food contact materials and articles failing to comply with DoC requirements for packaging inks have until January 31<sup>st<\/sup> of 2026 to adhere to the new regulations (same year as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodpackagingforum.org\/news\/german-printing-ink-ordinance-comes-into-force\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">German printing ink legislation<\/a> comes into force). Similarly, items not meeting other provisions may continue being sold under the previous law until January 31st, 2025, with sales permitted until their stocks are depleted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These changes in regulation reflect Switzerland&#8217;s commitment in ensuring safety and integrity of materials and articles in contact with food, and also mark the harmonization of the nation\u2019s laws with EU standards.
