58.6 %<\/li>\n<li><strong>Taiwan<\/strong> &#8211; 52.5 %<\/li>\n<li><strong>Germany<\/strong> &#8211; 52.04 %<\/li>\n<li><strong>Belgium<\/strong> &#8211; 52.02 %<\/li>\n<li><strong>Netherlands<\/strong> &#8211; 51.5 %<\/li>\n<li><strong>Denmark<\/strong> &#8211; 50.9 %<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slovenia<\/strong> &#8211; 49.6 %<\/li>\n<li><strong>Northern<\/strong> <strong>Ireland<\/strong> &#8211; 45.4 %<\/li>\n<li><strong>South Korea <\/strong>&#8211; 45.3 %<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>8 of the 10 countries are in Europe<\/strong>, reflecting the region&#8217;s longstanding strategies and policies that have driven significant investments in collection, logistics, sorting, and reprocessing infrastructure\u200b.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Collection_Rates\"><\/span><strong>Collection Rates<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, there are 7 countries achieving a <strong>collection rate of 90 % or more<\/strong>: Finland, Japan, Norway, Germany, Chile and Denmark.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, while the <strong>2029 target for 90 %<\/strong> separate collection for recycling of single-use plastic waste in the EU is slowly approaching, <strong>many Member States are still below the 2025 target of 77 %.<\/strong> This includes Greece (28 %), Poland (41 %), Italy (58 %), France (60 %), Ireland (62 %), Slovenia (65 %), Netherlands (70 %), Austria (75 %) and Spain (75 %).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5251\" src=\"https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Austria-Leads-Top-Recycling-Nations-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Austria Leads Top Recycling Nations\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Austria-Leads-Top-Recycling-Nations-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Austria-Leads-Top-Recycling-Nations-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Austria-Leads-Top-Recycling-Nations-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Austria-Leads-Top-Recycling-Nations-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.packlab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Austria-Leads-Top-Recycling-Nations.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Key_Practices_of_Leading_Nations\"><\/span><strong>Key Practices of Leading Nations<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the report, the top recycling nations share <strong>several practices<\/strong> that contribute to their municipal recycling reporting:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Clear and consistent <\/strong>definitions, measurement points, and detailed reporting by key materials, types, and sources.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distinguishing<\/strong> between estimates of waste generation, collection, and recycling to ensure accurate data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adopting<\/strong> high-performing practices and <strong>formalizing<\/strong> the informal recycling sectors to protect health, raise living standards, and enhance data reporting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"General_Findings\"><\/span><strong>General Findings<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report reveals that <strong>no country has yet surpassed a 60 % municipal waste recycling rate<\/strong>, indicating a global challenge in achieving higher recycling efficiency. While <strong>western European countries dominate the top ranks<\/strong> due to long-standing investments in recycling infrastructure and public awareness campaigns, the study also notes that <strong>countries with lower income levels face challenges<\/strong> like informal waste sectors and inadequate reporting systems, which do not help in providing accurate recycling performance assessments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report also points out the variability of recycling rates for specific materials, with <strong>metal beverage containers achieving the highest rates<\/strong> compared to glass and plastic<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Future_Directions\"><\/span><strong>Future Directions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report is part of a <strong>two-phase study<\/strong>, with a second edition expected later this year.
