Test your packaging for PFAS and total fluorine under PPWR.

Total fluorine screening and targeted PFAS analysis
for plastic and paper food-contact packaging

Test your packaging for PFAS and total fluorine under PPWR.

Total fluorine screening and targeted PFAS analysis for plastic and paper food-contact packaging

PFAS in food-contact packaging are restricted under Regulation (EU) 40/2025. Demonstrating compliance requires analytical data, either as a screening step (total fluorine – TF) or as targeted identification of specific PFAS compounds. Our laboratory performs both, across plastic and paper packaging materials.

WHY IT MATTERS

Regulation (EU) 40/2025 restricts PFAS in packaging placed on the EU market. The obligation to demonstrate compliance rests with the economic operator.

Total Fluorine screening provides a first indication of whether fluorinated substances are present. Where screening returns a positive result, targeted analysis identifies and quantifies the specific compounds. Together, the two methods document the status of the material, whether for regulatory compliance, customer requirements or internal due diligence.

Do reusable food containers actually meet EU migration limits?

We tested 12 reusable plastic food containers available on the Greek market against the metal migration limits in Regulation (EU) 10/2011 and found that compliance alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Read the full methodology, results and recommendations in our white paper.

FAQ

Which packaging materials can you test for PFAS?

We can test plastic and paper food-contact packaging materials.

What is the difference between total fluorine screening and a targeted PFAS analysis?

Total fluorine (TF/EOF) is a screening method. It determines whether fluorinated substances are present, without identifying them. Targeted PFAS analysis identifies and quantifies specific PFAS compounds (PFAS, PFOA, PFOS). Screening is faster, but targeted analysis is more specific. In many cases both are performed.

What documentation do I receive after testing?

Accredited test reports stating the determined values, suitable for audits and compliance files.
